Welcome to Dance 10

Hi Everyone and Welcome to Dance 10!

Whether you have prior dance experience or are just beginning your journey into the dance arena, I would like to thank you for enrolling in this class. It is because of your interest that we are able to offer this class for the very first time at LA Matheson and I couldn't be happier!

This blog will be used to post important information, notices and reminders about class, so please make a habit of checking it regularly. Since we won't be in a traditional classroom or use a lot of paper and pencils, it may be easy to forget that this this is still a regular class for a mark and credit! I will do my best to give you verbal reminders in class each day and update this website weekly! Please check this site every Sunday night for a look at the week to come. You may also find my email address here if you have any questions or need to ask/tell me something.

The first bit of information I'd like to communicate with you is the necessity of proper dance footwear....as per the course outline (see link on right-hand side) and as I will discuss in detail in class, you MUST have proper dance footwear to participate in class. However, if you have never danced before, I realize you likely won't have any dance shoes and do not expect you to make the costly investment of purchasing a brand new pair. I therefore recommend 'foot undies'! These are a great inexpensive alternative (approx. $20) and can be purchased at any dance store. I've listed a few dance stores below, but highly recommend going to Dance Craft. Not only is this store the closest location to our school, but if you tell the store associate you dance at LAMatheson at the time of purchase you will receive a 10% discount!

"Foot Undies"

Nearby Dance Supply Stores in Surrey:

These "foot undies" will allow you to slide and turn on the balls of your feet, while still having your toes and heels for grip and traction. We will using these for the entire first month while we study modern jazz, as well as when we study other forms of dance later in the semester, such as hip hop, tap, ballet, bhangra, bollywood, and possibly even ballroom and square dancing.

I look forward to teaching you all this semester. It's going to be a lot of fun!!!
